40K Killteams Tournament Empty 40K Killteams Tournament

Patrick and I have been discussing the possibility of having a killteams tournament next year. It'd be like the Ave Caesar league but better and for Warhammer 40k.

We are still working out the details but here is the basic idea of how it'd go.

Everyone would start off with 500 points (or some other set number). We would play games of 100 points (or some other set number). The catch is that you can't ever use anything more than what your 500 point list has on it, and any casualties are permanent. So that way by the final match everyone is severely limited.

That's the basic idea so far. What do you guys think?

I dunno how well that would work. For the 500 point list would there be anyway to return the units back. Perhaps there could be a medic function so that if a unit "died" it would be unusable for a period of time (Perhaps 3 games) at which point it would be reuse-able again. But, otherwise it seems like a great idea.

My preliminary ideas for the kill teams tournament rules:

Keep in mind that this is ONLY PRELIMINARY.

What do you mean by that the game times will be randomly generated? The length of the game as in the time limit or when the game is playing?

I mean the times when everyone plays.

The times of the game occurences and who will participate in them, not the times of the game length

Yeah, that makes more sense. So will there be like a buy in for the players? Also, can we put models twice on the list if we don't have a second exactly the same model?

Normal game rules apply. Any model can have duplicates as long as it is not a unique model (there can only be one commisar Yarrik)

So if I only had one veteran melta-gun guardsman, I could list it multiple times on my 100*n army list but I could only use it once on my 100 battle list.

    What about the buy in?

First question: Yes, it's not a unique character, and you can proxy. Though I would recommend against an only-meltas army.

Second question: We find out who wants in at the beginning. If they want to be in it, they are in. But no late entries (or maybe there will be and they will start at the points level of the guy with the lowest number of points).

Oh, wait one last question, do we know who we are facing ahead of time so we can make our battle-lists accordingly.

You will know who the enemy is (and possibly what they have to choose from), but you will NOT know what they are using. So if it was you vs me, I could make a random-ass guess that you would use 10 guys with melta-guns, but I'd have no definitive way of knowing for sure. Likewise, you could assume that I would use 5 Nobz, but I might end up using 4 warbikers.

Also my brother thinks you are all incompetent and don't already know that every model is its own unit. But you do. And he doesn't know that. So this redundant line is here by his request.

Isn't that self evident? That's why it's called kill teams. Not kill squads.

    The rule pitch was this:

You put together a 500 point killteams list. You post this list where we keep score. Instead of having points earned by winning, forces fight until they are depleted entirely.
In essence, you choose 100 points from that 500 points to play a game with. You play the game, and any units that survive the game are added again to your list, in the exact same state as the end of the game saw them at (immobilized units will remain immobilized, 1/2 wound units remain 1/2 wounds, 3/4 ammo used units remain 3/4 ammo used). As the game progresses, the number of options for a force are severely limited.

You get out if you have less than 100 points, because you can't field an army.
You win by being the last one left.
Troops that retreat off the board survive to fight another day.
You cannot simply run without giving an actual fight.
Winning the battle gives a point reward to be spent however the winner wants.
You get 1 point for winning, and the two highest players in points fight each other next game. The next highest 2 fight, and so on. If one of them is the lowest, they don't have to fight this round. Otherwise, the bottom 3 have a battle-royal.

    Anyway, thats just my idea.

Will this be the rest of this school year, over the summer, or next school year?

And Daniel, I did not say people were incompetent, but I know that some do not know what kill teams is, so I figured I'd just tell you so you might add it to the rules, not make some sarcastic comment that implies I've gone insane.

Also, Patrick, will you do something about the title under your picture? On my computer, it just appears as a bunch of blank boxes that blots out 2-3 lines when I try to read your post.a
